Ukulele Making

Taught by David Whiteman

On this course, you’ll make a simple uke pretty much from scratch. By the end of the week, you’ll (fingers crossed!) have your instrument strung up and ready to play. A choice of materials is available for your instrument, including a sustainable option with UK grown timbers, such as oak, sycamore and yew. You’ll learn many instrument making skills with this project, such as side bending, fretting and top bracing. We’ll keep decoration to a minimum, leaving out time-consuming binding for example, but you can always do that when you decide to come back and make a second instrument on our advanced course! You don’t need to have prior experience of instrument building or woodwork for this course, but if you want a head start we do offer a basic woodworking course. All tools and materials are provided on the 6-Day Ukulele Building Course.
